Can you tell me a bit about yourself and what motivates you?

I come from a family of educationalists (it’s in the blood) and although my career has taken me into school leadership and consultancy work, I am very much a primary school teacher at heart. Making learning interactive, fun and irresistible is what motivates me. I am a huge believer in pupils having a voice in their learning, their school and their world and I truly believe that if we want a better global society for the future we need Values Education for our children.

What is your educational experience?

I was educated in Penzance during my formative years: wonderfully rich experiences in a beautiful place. (I am Cornish and proud of it!) I then trained at Rolle College, Exmouth, specialising in Music and Creative Education. I have been a Deputy Head, an Assistant Head, a SENCO, an Advanced Skills Teacher, an Inclusion Manager, a supply teacher as well as a leader for various subjects and various teams. As an educational consultant, I have worked for SfE, Lighthouse and Insetcourses.com and have led a plethora of training for teachers all over the country. I’ve taught throughout the primary age-range and have a special love of Year 6 and Reception: the two most independent year groups I think!

What is your educational specialism?

I was an Advanced Skills Teacher for PSHE and Citizenship and I am passionate about these subjects. I am equally keen and equipped to help develop coaching, growth mindsets and true mastery amongst all children and leaders. I am also a musician and love teaching Creative Arts. However, I get excited about teaching English, Maths, Science, PE... I still love teaching really!

What do you like doing outside of work?

I have a daughter and a son and I love spending time with them and my husband. I read a lot and enjoy travelling to new places. I love socialising and I’m told I have far too many Facebook check-ins for lunches with friends! I sing. I’ve been a lead vocalist in a band and I sing with choral groups too. I am a fervent Arsenal supporter and get emotional when visiting the Emirates! We have season tickets!
