Could you tell me a bit about yourself and what motivates you?

I love working with children and seeing their eyes open wide with the wonder and curiosity that our amazing world can give them. Being able to facilitate, support and share in their learning journey is all the motivation I need to know that being a teacher is the most rewarding career I have ever been fortunate enough to be involved in.

What is your educational experience?

I am a qualified teacher; having been firstly a teaching assistant, I progressed to HLTA role in 2004. The ‘educational training bug’ bit me and I received my BA degree in Primary Education and Teaching in 2010! I am now responsible for coordinating writing within the infant and junior school where I work in West Sussex.

What is your educational specialism?

I specialise in the primary curriculum with a particular emphasis on literacy which was my specialism at Chichester University. I am passionate about promoting the love of reading; sharing and performing fantastic literature, poetry and drama to enable children to then use these rich experiences to want to begin to write their own works which are celebrated and shared throughout the school and the wider world thanks to modern technology.

What do you like doing outside of work?

I enjoy spending time on the beach where I live with friends and my son when he is home from university. My hobbies include swimming; all genres of music; walking as long as it’s not too far; crafting and cooking. My greatest pastime though is to disappear inside the pages of a really good book! Our village book club monthly meeting is always a great way to read something new and exciting which I might not have chosen for myself.
