Could you tell me a bit about yourself and what motivates you?

Passion, energy and commitment to providing outstanding teaching and learning are my motivators.  My teaching philosophy is to remain open minded and innovative, embracing changes which I believe facilitates high quality education.  I hold the fundamental belief that, even as teachers, we are never too old to learn and that the process of learning something new everyday should be challenging, exciting and vital for any teacher, pupil, classroom and school.  Self reflection and self- improvement are key components to my teaching practice.  I read educational books and twitter to keep my up to date with current thinking and practice.

What is your educational experience?

I currently work as a Year 3 teacher in a large urban junior school with 15 years of teaching experience across all four year groups.  I have worked with the Local Authority as an Advanced Skills Teacher and Specialist Leader of Education to provide training and support across a number of schools in my local authority to raise the quality of teaching and learning.

What is your educational specialism?

My specialism is teaching and learning across the primary school phase.  I was accredited with Advanced Skills Teacher for teaching and learning in 2010 and currently work as a Lead Practitioner for my own school and as a Specialist Leader of Education for the Leading Learning Forward Teaching School Alliance to support learning in Maths, Phonics, CPD, ITT and NQT Development.  I am also a national accredited lead for the National Centre of Excellence in the Teaching of Maths.

What do you like doing outside of work?

A great deal of my spare time is given over to developing knowledge and understanding of how children learn through research and reading.  However, I have a large and close family who I enjoy spending time relaxing and socialising with.  In the holidays, I enjoy spending time in Brittany, France with my husband who now lives in England with me but his heart is in France.  Exploring the food, wine, culture and coastline is the ideal way to relax and forget about the busy lives we have here in England.
